Mbaye Babacar Diouf
Born in 1983, lives and works in Senegal
Mbaye Babacar Diouf is a young Senegalese painter whose graphic work plays with signs and questions human relationships more broadly.
After training at the National School of Arts in Dakar, Mbaye Babacar Diouf built his path in painting, by teaching and through his personal projects. In his work, he seeks harmony and aestheticism, qualities that he also finds in martial arts. Member of the national karate team, the artist finds his balance in the work of the body which enriches his work of the form on his canvases.
Mbaye Babacar Diouf's work is a grouping of abstract writings and is presented as a tribute to signs. In this sense, the painter aims to capture and express the richness of their graphic simplicity as well as their metaphysical dimension. As a metaphor for social signals, signs allow him to think about human relations and the presence of the individual in his social context.
Mbaye Babacar Diouf held his first exhibition as soon as he graduated from the "Off" program of the Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Dakar. Since then, he has been invited to the "In" program of the same Dak'Art festival, as well as to the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris for his work on Koranic writings. A young artist but already well-established, his career is to be followed closely, especially since he received the silver medal in the painting category at the last Jeux de la Francophonie.
His works have been presented at various international exhibitions and fairs, such as Art Paris Art Fair, 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London, or the DAK'ART International Biennale of Contemporary African Art.
