Gabriël Dubois
Born in 1981, lives and works in Hornby Island, BC, Canada
Gabriel Dubois’ practice is born out of an innate desire to express and inscribe his heterogeneous life experiences through the formal language of abstraction.
A curiosity for foreign affiliations has led to international artistic endeavors, promoting a visual practice informed by multiple imprints, perspectives, and traditions.
Dubois operates primarily as an abstract painter, employing hard-edge & gestural components within an absorbing playing field of deft iconography. Utilizing sign painting mechanisms to create a contemporary visual dialect through recognizable artistic authorship, Gabriel attempts to convey the intricacies of his own personal geography.
Site-specific works, structural installations, sculptures, and collage-based imagery act as formal counterpoints to his painted compositions.
